Math Problem: Pretty Woman + Ugly Man = Happy Marriage? What?

So a study came out yesterday from the Journal of Family Psychology that basically suggest that woman should date and marry men uglier than them if they want marital bliss.

See what it's come to. Is that all we have to do?

The study involved 82 newlywed couples and found that the happiest and most content marriages are those where women have married men who are less attractive than themselves. Study leader Professor Jim McNulty said that men who were more attractive than their mates were more likely to be unhappy in dealing with marriage life and tended to offer less emotional and practical support to their wives.

On the other hand, in couples where the wife is the more attractive mate, both partners felt satisfied and content with their marriage.

The study also suggested that in evolutionary terms, women are less choosy about their man’s looks as long as he is able to help them reproduce; and men are programmed to choose a mate who is most likely to pass on their genes.

Is this the key to happiness? I did a small observation of my own among my friends and surprisingly this seems to be true. And by attractive, I'm not only speaking of physical traits. Among my female friends, the overwhelming majority tended to be more outgoing, social butterflies, trendsetters, spontaneous and adventurous. While their spouse may or may not be as physically attractive but were definitely less outgoing and social, basically falls into the background of the relationship.

So my personal opinion is that there may be some truth to this but not (in my perspective) physically attractive but overall more socially attractive woman enjoy a happier marriage with a less socially attractive man.

This study reminds me of the funny scene with Lela Rochon and Wendell Pierce in "Waiting to Exhale." After their love scene, Rochon's character began to contemplate if maybe she could be happier with him if she overlooked his physical attributes and.... made some physical adjustments on her own. LOl. Let's take a moment to reminisce, shall we?
